Price of chicken springs up


The prices of chicken and cement have been increased with effect from midnight tonight.The Consumer Affairs Authority said thereby that the price of a kilogramme of chicken would be increased by Rs.30. bringing  the price of a kilogramme to Rs. 380.

It added that the price of a bag of cement would be increased between Rs. 68 and Rs. 85 bringing  the price of a bag of cement to Rs. 1020.

Main responsibilities would include:

(O/L) examination with 4 Credits with a Credit for English and possess a Government School of Nursing certificate with 3 years general nursing experience in Public sector hospitals preferably in Accident & Emergency/Public Health/Occupational Health and be a registered Nurse with the Sri Lanka Medical Council.

University teachers’ strike ends

Federation of University Teachers Associations (FUTA),6% of GDP,University teachers’ strike ends
strike ends
The continuous strike carried out for nearly 100 days by the Federation of University Teachers Associations (FUTA) has been called off say reports.
A decision has been taken at the Executive Committee of FUTA to end the strike and accordingly university teachers will report for duty on Monday say these reports.
The strike was carried out demanding 6% of GDP for education in the country and several other demands relevant to university teachers.

One person dead in Kudagammana, Athgala road in Divulapitiya area.Victim was Appuhamilage Recshi Janaka who was resident of wawul kale waththa, walpita and also 41 years old.
Victim was travel by lorry with supporter. Suddenly car came and across the road and fire them.Suspects are not yet identified.
Further investigations are done by Divulapitiya Police.

EPF investments challenged in court


Free Trade Zone and General Services Employees Union, Ceylon Bank Employees Union, Inter Company Employees Union, Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya, Lanka Jathika Estate Workers Union, Commercial and Industrial Workers Union, Federation of Media Employees Union, Independent Port Employees Union, Insurance Employees Union, United General Employees Union, and Ceylon Estate Staffs Union







Eleven trade Unions have filed a fundamental rights violation petition before the Supreme Court against questionable investments of the Employees Provident Fund in unstable companies.

These trade unions are seeking the court to direct the attorney general to a full criminal investigation on the alleged fraud and alleged market manipulation with the said funds.

The petitioners are Free Trade Zone and General Services Employees Union, Ceylon Bank Employees Union, Inter Company Employees Union, Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya, Lanka Jathika Estate Workers Union, Commercial and Industrial Workers Union, Federation of Media Employees Union, Independent Port Employees Union, Insurance Employees Union, United General Employees Union, and Ceylon Estate Staffs Union.

The respondents cited are the Monetary Board of Sri Lanka, its Chairman cum Central Bank  Ajit Nivard Cabraal, Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera, Members of the Monetary Board as well as the Commissioner General of Labour Pearl Weerasinghe, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the Attorney General.

Deputy minister of fisheries Susantha Punchinilame

Deputy minister of fisheries Susantha Punchinilame, his coordinating secretary and the bodyguards have been attacked by fishermen, with whom the minister had got into an argument at a meeting in Kantale, Trincomalee.

It all began after a fisherman had asked the deputy minister on banning illegal fishing gear and the provision of relief for the inland fisheries sector.

Angered by the question, the deputy minister and a bodyguard had attacked the fishermen.


When that fisherman’s wife and his colleague had come to his rescue, the deputy minister’s wife had attacked the fisherman’s wife.

Thereafter, the fishermen present had attacked the deputy minister, his bodyguards and the coordinating secretary, all of whom had subsequently fled the scene.

Later, police arrested two fishermen, while a woman attacked by the deputy minister’s wife, a bodyguard and the coordinating secretary have been admitted to hospital.
