15 Railway engines suffer damage due to inferior quality fuel in Sri Lanka

The All Ceylon railway service general workers Association chief Secretary Sumathipala Manawadu said , a large number of railway engines were damaged because of the use of inferior quality fuel. Yesterday alone , 15 engines were damaged.Consequently ,a large number of commuters were stranded , he pointed out.

B A T Ariyaratne , the General Manager of the railways said , an investigation has been instituted to determine whether the engines that suffered technical impairment were in fact because of the fuel used.

Samples of the fuel used were forwarded to the Technical Institute of Technology for examination , and , from today,instructions have been given to use Lanka super diesel for the railway engines , the General Manager added.
